5 January 2024 – Institute of Bioscience (IBS) recently welcomed a delegation of Occupational Safety and Health Office (PPKKP) officials from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) who visited to verify and assess the chemical storage of the institute. Nine main chemical storage units at IBS were involved in this verification visit and each of these units is overseen by a designated Storage Officer.

The purpose of this verification visit was to ensure safety and compliance with established chemical management procedures. The comprehensive assessment involved a thorough examination of chemical inventory records, a physical inspection of chemical substances and their labels, scrutiny of the storage area for safety compliance, and a review of adherence to safety practices.

It is noteworthy that this verification activity for chemical storage marks the first assessment following the implementation of the E-Chemical Storage System in 2021. This E-Chemical Storage System encompasses all aspects of storage management, aligning with circulars and directives related to storage management issued periodically. The visit concluded with PPKKP officials issuing a few formal reprimands and sharing essential information with the respective Storage Officers involved.
