IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast 2024 @ UPM

27 February 2024 – The IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast 2024 @ UPM (GWB2024), organized by the Natural Medicines and Products Research Laboratory (NaturMeds), Institute of Bioscience (IBS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in collaboration with the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry (IKM), was held at NaturMeds, IBS, UPM. The program was organized in conjunction with the celebration of International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The main objective of the GWB series is to establish an active network of people of all genders to overcome the barriers to gender equality in science.

Over the past five years, more than 1500 GWB events have taken place in 100 countries. By organizing this program, scientists from different research fields gathered for an interactive breakfast session. The event served as a catalyst to encourage active networking and collaboration between researchers in the field of science, in line with this year's theme 'Catalyzing Diversity in Science'. In addition, the GWB2024 has given an opportunity to highlight NaturMeds' proactive approach to showcase laboratory services and to promote potential research collaborations, particularly in the area of Drug Discovery and Development. The program was attended by researchers from UPM, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Management and Science University (MSU), Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) as well as Meliliea (M) Sdn Bhd as an industry partner. This program also received isotonic drink sponsorship from Etika Sdn Bhd.

The GWB2024@UPM commenced with a breakfast session, followed by welcoming remarks from the Head of NaturMeds, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Faizal Abdull Razis, and the Program Chairperson, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Munirah Mohd Faudzi. Subsequently, participants took part in a tour of NaturMeds A's research laboratories to acquaint themselves with the facilities and services provided. Additionally, a webinar session organized by IKM, featuring invited panelists, and an activity focused on making candles from used cooking oil were conducted for the participants. The program concluded at 12:00 noon.
